First, which Copilot
This page is about Simplify Copilot, the Chrome extension from simplify.jobs that fills job applications, not Microsoft Copilot or GitHub Copilot. Simplify describes it as a way to autofill applications, tailor resumes and track what you submit (Simplify).
Why people look for something else
Simplify Copilot is free to fill forms and widely used, so the reasons to switch are usually specific:
- The AI is in a subscription. AI answers to essay questions and cover letters inside Copilot are Simplify+ features, and Simplify+ renews automatically (Simplify help, pricing). If you only need a few drafts, you may prefer to pay per draft.
- Where you apply. Its job listings cover ten countries (Simplify help); if you are a student in a European country outside that list, a tool built around your market may show you more.
- You want more, or less, automation. Some people want an agent that applies for them; Simplify offers one with Simplify+ (Autopilot). Others want a tool that can never send anything on its own.
The alternatives
- Barista, by Guap. A Chrome extension that fills application forms from your Guap profile and never presses submit. Filling and tracking are free; AI drafts are paid per use from credit that does not expire. Built alongside a job platform for students and early-career people in Europe. Guap makes it and wrote this page. Barista vs Simplify compares the two in detail.
- Jobright. Matching, resume tailoring, an autofill extension and an agent that applies for you, for US-based roles only for now (Jobright).
- Huntr. A job tracker first. Its free plan tracks up to 100 jobs with unlimited autofills and a few AI credits; Pro adds unlimited AI (Huntr pricing).
- Teal. A resume builder and tracker whose extension saves jobs from 40+ job boards, including LinkedIn, Indeed and Glassdoor (Teal).
- LazyApply. For bulk auto-applying, with yearly plans priced by applications a day (LazyApply). The opposite of fill and review.
Barista and Simplify Copilot on the points people switch for
The rows that usually decide it, as of 13 October 2026.
| What is compared | Barista | Simplify Copilot |
|---|---|---|
| Paying for AI | Per draft, from credit you buy once, which never expires. Nothing renews. | Simplify+ at $19.99 a week, $39.99 a month or $89.99 for three months, renewing automatically. Source |
| Applying for you | Never. You press submit on each application. | Autopilot, with Simplify+, applies to jobs on your behalf. Source |
| Browsers | Chrome, and Edge, Brave, Arc and Opera from the same store listing. | Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc and other Chromium browsers, and Firefox in beta. Source |
| Application systems named | Tested on Greenhouse and Ashby forms captured from live job posts; fills other careers pages it reads as forms. | Over 100 portals, naming Workday, Greenhouse, iCIMS, Taleo, Avature, Lever and SmartRecruiters. Source |
When Simplify is still the better choice
Stay with Simplify Copilot if Workday or iCIMS forms make up much of your list, if you use Firefox or apply from an iPhone, or if you write enough AI answers each week that a subscription costs less than paying per draft. It is also far more widely used: its store listing showed about 600,000 users on 13 October 2026 (store listing).
Two autofill extensions on the same form can fill the same fields twice. If you try an alternative, switch the other one off for that site while you do.
